Former Australian pace spearhead and a three-time World Cup-winner Glenn McGrath is in India. He is currently a part of a private session hosted by HCL Technologies during the World Economic Forum (WEF). Amid this, the New South Wales seamer expressed his views on plenty of things including revealing his pick for the best players in both the departments of the current generation.

The veteran McGrath is best known for his accuracy throughout his career. He owned the record for the highest number of wickets taken by a fast bowler in Test cricket until England’s James Anderson broke it in 2018.

A key member of all Australia’s World Cup triumph, McGrath is the highest wicket-taker when it comes to 50-over World Cups.

The 49-year old, apart from opening up on his picks for the best players today, also recalled his fiery on-field duels with Sachin Tendulkar and a controversial LBW decision in 1999.

According to McGrath, Jasprit Bumrah and Kagiso Rabada are two of the greatest bowlers of the present era. McGrath described Bumrah as an exceptional talent, who doesn’t possess a long run-up, despite which he generates good pace and remarkable control.

Furthermore, the New South Wales bowler called himself a big fan of Rabada and refuses to pick one among his fellow countrymen in the pool of fast bowlers as he thinks ‘all are great’ in their own right.

“Bumrah is quite a unique bowler. He doesn’t have a long run-up like a lot of fast bowlers have. But he has got good pace, incredible control, and the right attitude. This South African bowler Rabada is an amazing bowler, I’m a big fan of his. I’m leaving Australian bowlers out of this list as I feel they all are great.” McGrath said as quoted by The Outlook.

The vastly experienced seamer didn’t bat an eye in picking Steve Smith and Virat Kohli as the two best batsmen of the current generation.

McGrath terms his fellow countryman Smith as having a unique technique while also pointing out that he has excellent hand-eye coordination that makes his batting look amazing.

As far as the Indian captain Kohli is concerned, the Aussie labelled him as a technically adept and a class batsman while naming his on-field aggressiveness as the captain very peculiar.

“Smith is a little bit unique, he is a little strange, he is not normal, but has got a great hand and eye coordination. Technically, he is not a textbook batsman, but the way he bats is amazing. On the other hand, there is Kohli. He is a class player and is very technically correct. He is a little bit unusual and very aggressive on the filed especially as Indian captain, but he is a class player.” McGrath added on this aspect.
