Global T20 League - Edmonton Royals vs Brampton Wolves - Match Report

Brampton Wolves was able to get their second win of the ongoing Global T20 League to top the points table as they defeated Edmonton Royals by 27 runs. The veteran Pakistan batsman Shahid Afridi was at his best as the right-hander scored 81 runs from 40 balls. Thus, the Brampton Wolves was able to post 207 runs and defended the score successfully.

This was the second loss for Edmonton Royals in the ongoing seasons and the team will need to pull up its socks.

Brampton Wolves captain Colin Munro won the toss and decided to bat first. Wolves got off to a good start as their opener George Munsey and Lendl Simmons added 43 runs for the opening stand. The West Indies batsman Lendl Simmons scored 59 runs from 34 balls. The right-hander scored five fours and as many sixes in his blistering innings.

Shadab Khan was able to ping Simmons in front of the wickets to end his innings. Furthermore, the leg-spinner provided two more breakthroughs to his team in the form of Colin Munro and Nitish Kumar.

Thus, Brampton Wolves needed a strong finish as they were 139-4 after 14 overs. Subsequently, Shahid Afridi was able to turn the match on its head as he scored a blistering knock of 81 runs from 40 balls. The talisman batsman scored 10 fours and five sixes in his quickfire knock.

Shadab Khan was the pick of the bowlers for Edmonton Royals as he took three wickets whereas all-rounder Ben Cutting took two wickets. Thus, Brampton Wolves was able to post 207 runs after fine knocks from Lendl Simmons and Shahid Afridi.

Edmonton Royals innings:

Edmonton Royals was able to get off to a decent start as their openers Navneet Dhaliwal and Richie Berrington added 44 runs. However, both the openers were dismissed in the same over by Wahab Riaz to put Royals on the backfoot. Subsequently, almost all the batsman got off to starts but no one was able to even get to a fifty. Brampton Wolves were able to strike at regular intervals and never allowed Edmonton Royals to get ahead in the game.

Edmonton Royals captain Faf du Plessis scored 21 runs from 12 balls but he was dismissed by Ish Sodhi. New Zealand southpaw batsman James Neesham looked good as he scored 33 runs from 18 balls with the help of two fours and as many sixes.

However, Edmonton Royals could not achieve any kind of impetus in their batting innings. Ish Sodhi and Zahoor Khan scalped three wickets each for Brampton Wolves. Wahab Riaz took two wickets whereas Shahid Afridi also chipped in with one scalp.

Shahid Afridi was awarded the Man of the Match for his blistering knock of 81 runs for Brampton Wolves.

Brampton Wolves will now take on Winnipeg Hawks on August 1 whereas Edmonton Royals will lock horns with Montreal Tigers on 31st July.
