Niranjan Shah, the former BCCI secretary, said the government would take the final call on the fate of India-Pakistan match at the 2019 World Cup. On Thursday (February 14th), more than 40 CRPF jawans got martyred in the Pulwama attack, which got carried out by Jaish-eh-Mohammad. Though Pakistan hasn’t taken any responsibility of the same nor did they expressed condolences over the loss of life; the cricketing ties between arch-rivals look unlikely to resume.

BCCI awaits the government’s decision

The BCCI has been waiting for the final call from the government on playing Pakistan on June 16th in Old Trafford. Niranjan Shah opined if BJP says no then the board has to abide by the rules.

“India’s relations with Pakistan at our lowest ebb. I ask COA to immediately call for SGM on deciding on India Pakistan World Cup match. The decision however finally rest with the government. If the government decides, then BCCI will have to abide by it,” Shah told Times Now.

Meanwhile, not only Shah but the other officials have also asked the board to boycott Pakistan at the showpiece event. Harbhajan Singh, the veteran India off-spinner, told India Today there is no need for India to keep any relations with Pakistan. He said,

“There is no need for any relations with Pakistan, let alone cricket. Don’t play the World Cup match with Pakistan on June 1. Country comes first for all of us and we are all standing with our forces,” Harbhajan said.

CCI, RCA protest against Pulwama attacks

The Cricket Club of India (CCI) and the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) have protested against the attacks on the CRPF jawans. As the CCI had covered Imran Khan’s portrait, the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur has put down the photos of Pakistan cricketers in their photo gallery.
