Virat Kohli is currently captain of the Indian team across formats, but the kind of displays the Men in Blue have put up in the ODI and Test series versus New Zealand, there have been calls for Rohit Sharma to replace him.
While various nations in the world of cricket have different captains in different formats, England the ODI World Cup winners in 2019 are led by Eoin Morgan in the limited-overs format and Joe Root in Test cricket. The same can be done by India as well, and unsurprisingly, various former Indian players have backed these claims.
Today, we will be listing below five legends of cricket, who have lauded Rohit’s captaincy in the past.
Here are five Indian greats who have backed Rohit Sharma to Replace Virat as the skipper of the Indian team:
5) Yuvraj Singh
Having played under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy at Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and under Virat Kohli at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Yuvraj Singh has thrown his weight in Rohit’s favour in the past.
Not only did Yuvraj expressed the need for a new skipper in T20 cricket, but he also nominated Rohit to carry over the mantle from Kohli. In a previous press conference, the former Indian all-rounder stated that since there are three formats of cricket nowadays, there would be added workload on Kohli.
This is why perhaps having someone else lead Team India in T20 cricket would not be such a bad option after all. Rohit being the vice-captain of the team, has led the team in Kohli’s absence various times and has won multiple IPL titles with MI, so he’s a proven captain.
