Chief selector, MSK Prasad feels Hardik Pandya needs to be more efficient with both bat and ball to retain his position in the Indian side.

However, before getting dropped from the last Test against England, Hardik Pandya played each of the Test India played overseas this year though he did a little to justify or to prove himself.

Hardik needs to be more consistent

In four Tests in England, Pandya scored 164 runs averaging 23.42, as the all-rounder only managed to score one half-century. Meanwhile, with the ball, he picked up ten wickets at 24.70, including a five-wicket haul in Nottingham. Apart from his match-winning show in the Trent Bridge, Pandya fared poorly in the series.

Moreover, in this year, out of 12 innings including South Africa and England, he has picked up 14 wickets. As far as batting is concerned for Hardik Pandya barring the fifty in Cape Town and Trent Bridge, he didn’t show much from him. His inconsistent display has made a lot of criticism.

However, MSK Prasad said Pandya is yet to prove his credentials in all the formats despite he doing well in bits and pieces. Leaving aside the century he had hit against Sri Lanka in Tests last year, Hardik Pandya has failed to keep the momentum going for him.

He’s an all-rounder in making – Prasad

“Hardik Pandya is an all-rounder in the making. He scored a century against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. He batted well against South Africa in the Cape Town Test and performed well both with bat and ball against England in Nottingham. This clearly shows that he can perform in all conditions,” MSK Prasad told PTI.

Moreover, MSK Prasad also told he is expecting a little bit of consistency both with bat and ball from Hardik Pandya. Prasad said that the tour against England would surely give Pandya some learnings in his career.

Prasad feels Pandya will be a better player with the experience that he has gained from England tour.

“Only thing we expect from him is more consistency with both bat & ball. I am sure this tour would have been a big learning experience in his career. He will be a better player with the experience he has gained from this tour.” MSK Prasad added.
