Ahead of the first T20I between India and Bangladesh in Delhi, weather has become the major talking point. The pollution level in the national capital has been a big matter of concern. The exposure to the polluted air is definitely going to take an adverse affect on the players. The overall air quality index (AQI) crossed the 400 mark on Wednesday, raising concerns among residents of the city.

An AQI between 0-50 is considered “good”, 51-100 “satisfactory”, 101-200 “moderate”, 201-300 “poor”, 301-400 “very poor”, and 401-500 “severe”. Above 500 is “severe-plus emergency” category. Thus, there are apprehensions over the players being exposed to the polluted air while playing the game.

However, Rohit Sharma, who will be leading Team India in the series, said he hasn’t faced any problem with the weather in the national capital. Rohit Sharma’s statement came just hours after Bangladesh batsman Liton Das was spotted training while wearing a mask.

“I have just landed and haven’t had time to assess. As far as I know, the game is to be played on 3rd and will be played. We didn’t have any problem when we played the Test match here (against Sri Lanka). We are not aware of the exact discussion and I haven’t had any problem,” Rohit said.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that India will skip the outdoor training ahead of the first game due to the weather. The reports have claimed that India are likely to stick with their gym sessions. However, sources close to the development have said that a final call will be taken after taking a look at the weather on Friday and Saturday.

“The match shouldn’t be a major problem as it is a night match, but the issue is the training (set for the mornings) and you could see optional training sessions on both the days if the weather doesn’t improve. This isn’t a fresh season and the players have already been playing so some gym sessions should be enough to get them up and running after the Diwali break. And even if you have the senior players coming in on Saturday — eve of the game — it could be just to gauge the playing conditions. But again, all that depends on the weather conditions,” the source was quoted as saying by IndiaTV.

The first T20I of the series will take place on November 3. Rajkot and Nagpur will hos the next two games. After that, both the teams will lock horns in a two-match Test series.
