The Supreme Court appointed, Committee of Administrators announced the central contracts for the Indian players. The COA announced huge hikes for both men and women players in comparison to last year.
BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary had earlier cleared that none of the BCCI officials were involved in the decision making and it was the CoA who made the final decision.
A new A+ category in the central contracts was also introduced for only five players. The contract includes skipper Virat Kohli, openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan along with fast bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah.

MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin were included in the A category along with Ravindra Jadeja, Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Wridhhiman Saha. The A category players are eligible for a contract of Rs 5 crores.
The B category will feature KL Rahul, Umesh Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Hardik Pandya, Ishant Sharma and Dinesh Karthik. These players will be eligible for a contract of Rs 3 crores.
Kedar Jadhav, Manish Pandey, Axar Patel, Karun Nair, Suresh Raina, Parthiv Patel and Jayant Yadav have been included in Grade C. These players will be eligible for a contract of Rs 1 crores.
In the latest statement by the head of CoA Vinod Rai, he revealed the reason behind introducing a new grade.
He said:
“In any corporate structure, the pyramid is sharp at the top with only a handful getting huge money. But what we wanted was that the pyramid should be flat at the top with as many players. So, now we have two top grades – A+ and A, with both including 12 players together”
The board is also thinking of creating a Players’ Payment Fund which would be Rs. 122 Crores out of IPL revenues.
“This is one of the models that was discussed but ideally we wouldn’t want to touch IPL revenues,”
