India have been whitewashed. The last time this happened was when the Windies beat them 5-0 under Mohammed Azharuddin in 1988-89. Opener Henry Nicholls has credited Martin Guptill for his explosive batting that helps southpaw to play with ease.

New Zealand won the third and final game of the series by five wickets to clean sweep India 3-0 in the ODI series. Having clean swept the Kiwis in the T20 series, India have finally got the payback.

Going into the ODI series with this much confidence and style, hardly had anybody thought that India will suffer so badly in the series. It is a shameful defeat for India and the visitors must learn from their mistakes.

The humiliation came not only because of poor individual performances from team India, but the Kiwis also played a good brand of cricket throughout the series.

One among them, Nicholls, was awarded the Man of the Match award for his brilliant knock of 80 runs which came off 103 deliveries.

Nicholls stitched a beautiful 106-run partnership with the man in form, Martin Guptill for the first wicket.

Speaking in the post-match presentation, Nicholls said, “To make it 3-0 was what we wanted to do. To put in a good performance in a chase was good. (Batting with Guptill) The way he started to put us in a good position in the run chase.

“It certainly helps me that he scores so quickly. The idea was to put them under pressure. I could just play second fiddle. We’ve scored well in the first three matches, and that’s good to take into the Test matches,” he added.

India faced a humiliating loss against New Zealand in the ODIs. In the final game of the series, the Kiwis won the toss and decided to bowl first.

India scored a total of 296 runs in the first innings thanks to a KL Rahul hundred. Apart from him, Shreyas Iyer scored another half-century for the Men in Blue. Hamish Bennett was the pick of the bowlers for the Black Caps as he picked four wickets.

The New Zealand chase began in a spectacular fashion. Guptill and Nicholls gave a solid start before Tom Latham and Colin de Grandhomme finished the game in style for the Kiwis.

The Indians have been whitewashed for the first time in 32 years and will have to bounceback in the Tests.

The first game of the two-match series will begin on 21st February and India will have the chance to emerge on top after the tour ends if they go on to win the Tests.
