The former South African opener, Herschelle Gibbs has announced his appointment as the head coach of Rajasthani Heroes in the T10 League in Dubai later in this year.

He will surely be looking forward to the tournament and stint with the Rajasthani heroes. More than 100 international players are taking part it.

After a successful 1st year of the T10 League; we will be witnessing the 2nd edition of the tournament. It is scheduled to be played later in the year.

Taking to his twitter handle, Gibbs wrote,

“Happy to announce that I’ve been appointed head coach of the @RajasthaniHeroes for the @T10LeagueTweets in Dubai later this year.looking forward to some fireworks from the lads.”

Gibbs was a gem of a player for the Proteas especially in the limited overs format and played quite a few astonishing knocks during his long and illustrious career.

Gibbs got suspended for six months by Cricket South Africa. He was allegedly involved in match-fixing which broke out in 2000. The then skipper, Hansie Cronje accepted the charges of taking bribes from a bookie.

The name of Gibbs also sprung during the episode. However, he made a strong return to the national side. He went on to play for South Africa post that. Gibbs played his last international match against India in 2010 while his final Test match was a couple of years before.

The innings of his lifetime

He went on to smash a match-winning knock of 175 off just 111 deliveries against Australia during the famous match in 2005.

The match was held at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Australia posted the highest total of 434 after batting first. It was largely possible courtesy sensational innings of 163 from Ricky Ponting.

It required something extraordinary for the Proteas to get anywhere close.

Gibbs played the innings of his life, as he decimated the Aussie bowlers to all parts of the ground. It was a special inning which eventually helped South Africa chase down the mammoth target.

It was the decider of a five-match bilateral series which also enabled South Africa to clinch the series by a 3-2 margin.
