Hilarious: When Ravindra Jadeja Did Not Know Why Shane Warne Called Him Rockstar

India’s left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja was one of the most factors for Virat Kohli & Co’s sensational performance in the last home season, where won 10 out of 13 Tests, defeating New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia. The 28-year old picked up an astonishing in the season including the 25 wickets in the last home Test series against Australia to cap off the season on a brilliant note.

However, the Saurashtra star failed to replicate his performances in the Champions Trophy and the recently-concluded West Indies tour. While he managed to pick up just 4 wickets in the Champions Trophy, he could not even open his account in the Caribbeans where he played 2 ODIs and 1 T20Is. But now that the team is gearing up for the Test series against Sri Lanka, Jadeja would be keen to get back to his best and even though it would be challenging in Sri Lanka, the spinner is up for it.

“I like to perform when there are challenges. In cricket when you get easy performances or easy wickets then it’s no fun, but when you have to fight and perform in challenging conditions then that feeling is something else,” he said.

After claiming that he is up for the challenge in Sri Lanka, the India star revealed a hilarious anecdote that had happened with him when he was plying his trade for Rajasthan Royals under the captaincy of legendary spinner Shane Warne. Jadeja said that he was called a rockstar by the former Australia spinner but he didn’t know what it meant.

“Then I didn’t know what rockstar meant. When I met Shane Warne for the first time, I didn’t know he was such a great bowler in Test cricket. He used to call me ‘rockstar’, and I used to wonder that I don’t sing any songs, nor do I do anything that I deserved to be called a rockstar,” he said. “I just asked one of my friends why he is calling me a rockstar. He said that maybe because you put too much of zinc on your face (smiles)… I kept working hard on my game and kept improving my skills, whether it was bowling or batting.”

Jadeja, who was on national duty away outside of India when his daughter Nidhyana was born, got the first glimpse of the baby when he returned home.

Speaking about that, he said: “It was a special feeling. I don’t realise anything now but as I spend more time with the baby, then I will get more attached. It is a good thing for me and everyone in the family is so happy.”
