New Zealand swashbuckling opener Martin Guptill on Sunday said he hopes pacer Jasprit Bumrah will have three bad games. The hosts were handed yet another defeat by Virat Kohli’s men at the Eden Park. Batting first, the Kiwis failed to put up a competitive score as they were restricted to 132/5 in 20 overs.

Guptill in the company of Colin Munro provided a quick-fire start but the side couldn’t maintain the scoring in the latter overs. Bumrah mixed his pace well as the batters failed to read his variations. He conceded mere 21 runs from his four overs and picked up a wicket. He was well complemented by spinner Ravindra Jadeja, who darted some unplayable ones and conceded 18 runs and scalped 2 wickets in return.

Bumrah is one of the best death bowlers: Martin Guptill

“Bumrah is one of the best death bowlers. He has a great slower ball and bouncer. It is hard to get him away. Hopefully, he can have three bad games,” Guptill told reporters. Unlike the first T20I, the track got a lot slower in the second game. The batters had to adjust two the nature of the wicket and New Zealand certainly fell short by at least 20-30 odd runs.

“It was a different wicket to what we played on in the first match. It slowed down a bit, was suiting the spinners more. When I was there with Munro, it was coming on to the bat. We lost momentum after my dismissal, we had to rebuild from there,” he added.

India sailed home with 15 balls to spare. KL Rahul was once again among runs and he found solid support from Shreyas Iyer. “170 would have been a good score on this wicket, India bowled very well tonight. We had a lot of dot balls. Colin and my role is to be aggressive, one of us needed to stay out there till the 15th over, but that didn’t happen,” said Guptill.
