Hyderabad Police Busts International Cricket Betting Racket

At a time when the entire cricketing fraternity is busy enjoying the thrilling World Cup going on in England and Wales, the police have arrested some miscreants who were running a betting racket. The Hyderabad Police, on Wednesday, busted an organised cricket betting racket operating from abroad. The police also arrested six persons in addition to recovering Rs 8 lakhs betting amount.

“Betting amount of worth Rs 8 lakh, six mobile phones and one Hyundai Verna car was also recovered from their possession,” the police was quoted as saying by ANI.

Barkat was the kingpin on this racket. He is a resident of Sindhi Colony and was a school dropout. Barkat developed a liking for posh lifestyle, but his financial position became a hurdle to him. And in a desperate attempt to lead a lavish lifestyle, he ended up doing Cricket betting with an intention to earn easily and make quick money.

Moreover, with his work being illegal, went abroad to avoid arrest and any other legal procedure. The report claimed that Barkat is currently in the USA. He had left India before the start of IPL season of 2019 and is carrying out cricket betting through his friends in Hyderabad namely Danish, Sohail, Sahil, Zaynil and Nazim.

Danish, Sohail and Sahil were carrying out cricket betting from Goa on behalf of Barkat. Mohit Jain, Nikhar, Rahul and Vaibhav were the agents operating in Secunderabad. Zaynil and Nazim acted as collection agents. After the end of the the games, Danish, Sohail and Sahil did the calculations and directed the two to collect amounts as specified by them from agents Mohit Jain, Nikhar, Rahul and Vaibhav.  The agents receive 3% of the amount collected as commission.
