Steve Smith is extra motivated to return to his imperious best in Adelaide after Pakistan leggie Yasir Shah put 7 fingers up, indicating that he had dismissed Australia’s best batsman on 7 occasions. Smith hardly put on a show with the bat in the first Test where was dismissed for a mere 4 runs off Yasir Shah. The bowler himself is keeping count on the number of times he had got Smith out and the most recent dismissal gave him a great sense of accomplishment.

However, these statistics don’t really bother Smith too much as the batsman himself had told his teammates that Yasir has ‘woken up the beast’. Smith said that he is looking forward to the upcoming battle in the second Test in Adelaide as he will go one on one with Yasir Shah. Aussie batsman has reiterated that he is not going to give away his wicket that easily this time around.

“A couple of the boys were in the sheds just after that and said, ‘He’s just woken up the beast’ or something like that. We’re in for a battle [in the second Test]. I’m not going to be giving away my wicket very easily this time,” Steve Smith said with a smile.

Smith stressed on the fact that he is indeed motivated especially after Yasir Shah put his fingers up that he got him 7 times. However, Smith is literally unaware of the fact that Yasir had gotten him out 7 times. “I am motivated, particularly after he put his fingers up … that he got me seven times. I actually didn’t even know that he’d gotten me out [seven times]. I thought that he’d gotten me out once or twice. Seven times? There you go.”

It should be noted that Yasir Shah took 6 Tests to dismiss Smith 7 times and with 1 more dismissal of Smith would draw level with England fast bowler Stuart Broad as the bowler who has dismissed him the most times in Tests. Stuart Broad took 22 Tests to dismiss Smith on 8 occasions.
