I Am Not A Selfish Guy, Thinking About The Team Not My Century - Ajinkya Rahane

After a fine time, Ajinkya Rahane delivered the goods when it matters the most. The flamboyant batsman showed his class in the West Indies, especially, when the team is in requirement of his knock. The Mumbai batsman didn’t panic to the situation and played a heroic knock for the team. Meanwhile, he missed a century to his name, as he was dismissed on 81.

Rahane now has not hit a hundred in international cricket in more than 2 years and the drought extends to 29 innings in Test cricket — his longest hundred-less run in the longest format of the sport. Rahane last went past the 3-figure mark in international cricket in August 2017 when he hit 132 against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

We are now in a decent position – Ajinkya Rahane

Speaking of the same, Ajinkya Rahane quoted that he isn’t concerned about his hundred as long as his knocks are playing a vital role for the team. Rahane added that he has never been a selfish guy, thus, always played for the team. Further, he explained the tricky situation they faced after losing three wickets for 25 runs.

And also, Ajinkya Rahane quoted that century would have been nice but what mattered more was playing according to the demands of the situation. Meanwhile, he also gave credit to KL Rahul for standing at the crease for a while.

“As long as I am at the crease, I am thinking about my team, I am not a selfish guy. So yes, I am not too concerned about the hundred as I thought 81 on that wicket was really crucial as we are now in a decent position,” said Rahane after India finished the day at 203 for six.

“See, as long as I am contributing to my team is what matters. Yes, I was thinking about my hundred but the situation we are in — 25 for 3 was tricky. As I have said, I just thought if I could contribute for my team. I am not too concerned about my hundred as that will come automatically,” the 31-year-old said.

The Indian vice-captain had come out to bat in the 8th over of the day, when India was reeling at 25 for 3, with the West Indies’s new-ball pair’s tail up. Kemar Roach had provided the first two wickets in the fifth over – dismissing Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara caught behind, while Shannon Gabriel accounted for the Indian skipper. At that stage, Ajinkya Rahane turned things in India’s favour.
