Of late, Mohammed Shami has become the vital cog in the Indian bowling section, especially, in overseas games. After showing his ability in the ICC World Cup 2015, he was out of the team owing to injuries and few of his personal reasons also dented his career. However, he made a tremendous comeback and all set to play for Indian National Cricket Team in ICC World Cup 2019.

Shami, who made a comeback in the 50-over side in October last year, credited India captain Virat Kohli, the team management and the Indian cricket board for the role they played in his successful return in 2017 after he spent nearly two years on the sidelines recuperating from a shoulder injury.

I have confidence in my ability – Mohammed Shami

Speaking of his return, Shami quoted that he is grateful to God and also credited for the team culture in the dressing room. He believes that the members of the team gave him great confidence to deliver the goods. Now, he is confident in performing for the team anywhere in the world.

”I am thankful to god. Biggest is the unbelievably brilliant atmosphere in the dressing room, followed by the confidence that I have in ability right now and also the things that I continue to learn from our coaches. Everything has contributed and combined to take me to another level. There are many minute things which bring in a lot of confidence and help us to get into the rhythm,” Shami said to India Today.

I want to give my best:

Further, he went on to add saying that he is fit enough and lost a lot of weight to be flexible for the team. Shami is also ready for the ICC World Cup 2019 and wants to continue his focus on hitting those good lines and lengths on a consistent basis.

“I am grateful that I have been very fit over the last seven, eight months. I want to continue focusing on my line and length. That is exactly what I did and the results are there for everyone to see. I am all ready for the World Cup. As you can see, I have lost weight too. I am trying to improve my fitness and focus on the game. I want to give my best,” he added.

With the tournament being played in England, where fast bowlers come into the game, India should have a bowler, who can take you the wickets. Mohammed Shami has got the ability to keep the runs in check and can hit those uncomfortable lengths of the batsmen more often than not.

So far, he appeared in 40 games for the team and bagged 106 wickets to his name. Shami is the quickest Indian to reach 100-wickets tally as well. His bowling average reads 25.5 with an economy rate of 5.5.
