England allrounder Sam Curran said he cannot wait to play under India great MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sam Curran, who plied his trade for Kings XI Punjab in the last edition of the league, was the most expensive England player in November’s IPL auction.
Chennai Super Kings secured the England star’s services for Rs 5.5 crore (£590,000). Sam Curran had a fairly successful outing for Kings XI Punjab in the last edition, including a hat-trick but lack of consistency prompted the franchise to release him ahead of the auction.
In an otherwise dismal season for Kings XI, Sam Curran was one of the few positives for the team. He played in nine games and picked up 10 wickets including a hat-trick. He also played an impressive knock of 55 against Kolkata Knight Riders. Sam Curran is now looking forward to playing for the Super Kings.
But unfortunately, the IPL is currently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. IPL 2020 was set to start on March 29 but the BCCI had to suspend it in the wake of the outbreak. With the Indian government extending the lockdown further, the IPL has been suspended indefinitely.
But despite the lack of clarity over the future of the IPL, Sam Curran said that he cannot wait to play under MS Dhoni.
“I was very excited to move franchises,” said Sam Curran. “Chennai is a great franchise with all the big names and I can’t wait to play under MS Dhoni. Dhoni exudes calm.”
He further said that he is also looking forward to take some tips from the legends in the Super Kings team.
“Chennai is quite an older squad so there are quite a few legends who have made it in the game,” said Sam.
“Hopefully they will be looking to give tips to the younger players, so that’s something I’m really looking forward to,” he added.
