I Definitely See Women's IPL In A Year Or Two, Says Mithali Raj

India women team’s star Mithali Raj, on Sunday, said that she is hopeful of seeing the women’s Indian Premier League (IPL) getting underway in a year or two.

The talk about the women’s IPL has been doing the rounds ever since India exceeded all the expectations and made it to the 50-over World Cup final last year. After qualifying for the main event by playing the qualifiers, Mithali Raj and Co. defeated the likes of England, New Zealand and Australia to make it to the grand finale which they lost by 11 runs.

The brilliant performance, nevertheless, was lauded by one and all with recognition from all quarters.

From cash rewards from the Board for Cricket for Cricket in India (BCCI) and various state governments, the women were showered with prizes and praises.

Not only that, the BCCI also organised a One-off women’s IPL styled exhibition match this year.

The match was held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai ahead of the Qualifier 1 of IPL 2018. Big names from around the globe had played in the game.

And Mithali Raj is now confident that the women’s IPL is just around the corner.

“Well, I definitely see IPL in say a year or two definitely because a lot of people back at home do talk about women’s IPL. But then it all boils down to the board. And the franchises to come forward to get the setup going,” she said after guiding India to a win over Pakistan in World T20I.

“We’ve already discussed [the Women’s IPL] with the BCCI a few months back when we had the exhibition match. And it has been successful in terms of viewership. But after that, what’s the follow-up, I have no idea, because we were preparing for ourselves for this World Cup,” she added.

Mithali Raj scored a brilliant half century to guide India to a seven-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan. She scored 56 as India chased down 134 with ease.
