The Gujarat based seamer broke the back of West Indies batsmen in the last series, introducing a newfound consistency with the away going delivery. The world has been left speechless after the performances Jasprit Bumrah has put in for the past few years. He is certainly in the bracket of players like Kagiso Rabada, Jofra Archer or maybe ahead of them as well.
He has been instrumental in India’s rise in world cricket due to his immaculate bowling. Bumrah is the leading ODI bowler in the world while now entering the top-3 of the Test rankings as well. His rise has coincided with India’s dominance in Test cricket as Virat Kohli and Co. attained greater success after his entry.
Having picked five or more wickets in seven of the 12 Tests he has played so far also helped Bumrah become the fastest Indian pacer to pick 50 wickets. He’s yet to play a Test in India though, but Bumrah isn’t bothered ahead of the three-match series at home against South Africa.
For me, team success is important – Jasprit Bumrah
Apart from his first Test in India, the series will also mark the fight between him and Kagiso Rabada, who are currently the two best bowlers in the ranks. Speaking of the same, Jasprit Bumrah quoted that he doesn’t see any such fight, as he always believes in the team’s performance rather than the individual game.
”I don’t look at all these things. I don’t focus on individuals. For me, the team’s success is important. I look forward to what I can do and what contribution I can make in the team’s success,’ said Bumrah. I am looking forward to it. The preparations have already started. A lot of thought process goes behind this. A lot of preparation goes on.’’
“I’ve played Ranji Trophy all my life in India. So it’s not like that this is an alien condition for me. It’s just another challenge that I am looking forward to,” he said when asked about his plans to play in India during a promotional event.
The South African team will return to action for the first time since the 2019 World Cup, where they endured a poor campaign. South Africa finished seventh in the group stages of the tournament, finishing only above Bangladesh, West Indies and Afghanistan. They will be taking on the in-form Indian team.
