The hopes of the entire nation is now pinned in MS Dhoni as India look to recover from a disastrous start in the ongoing semifinal against New Zealand. India are in huge trouble and look set to face a humiliating defeat unless MS Dhoni comes up with yet another batting masterclass. Chasing 240 on a tough Manchester track, India started poorly as their top-order failed.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were back to the pavilion with just 5 runs on the board. Matt Henry rocked India by dismissing Rohit and Rahul while Boult sent back Kohli. Dinesh Karthik could not deliver either as India found themselves 4 down for just 24 runs.

Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya then stopped the rot for a while but found it tough to accelerate. They then departed in quick succession to leave India reeling at 92 for 6. Unsurprisingly, the onus is on MS Dhoni once again to bail India out of trouble and Sanjay Manjrekar said he feels sorry for the veteran cricketer.

The former India batsman said that the onus of winning the tough games should be on younger players and not Dhoni.

“I must confess, I feel sorry for Dhoni because this is Dhoni not in his prime. And once again, it has come down to him. The expectations of billions of fans around the world pinned on Dhoni. Got to feel for him,” Sanjay Manjrekar said on air.

“I just feel the onus of winning games now of such kinds should be more on younger players.  Rohit Sharma has done his job, so has Virat Kohli. So I will go back to players like KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik. This is the time when he (Dhoni) should be amongst the other players enjoying team success more. All the hopes are resting on him,” added Sanjay Manjrekar.
