In a stunning gesture, former India batsman Gautam Gambhir, on Thursday, announced that he would contribute his two years’ salary as an MP to the Prime Minister-CARES fund to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping through the country.

The cricketer-turned-politician, who is BJP’s Lok Sabha member from East Delhi, made the announcement on his Twitter page. He had earlier pledged a month’s salary for the cause and also released Rs 1 crore from his MPLAD fund. The batting legend also urged people to come forward and donate generously.

“People ask what can their country do for them. The real question is what can you do for your country? I am donating my 2 year’s salary to #PMCaresFund. You should come forward too,” he wrote on Twitter.

Gautam Gambhir’s reply to Royal Challengers Bangalore:

Gautam Gambhir received praise from all over for his generous donation for the fight against the pandemic. And IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore also decided to join the bandwagon and highlight the former cricketer’s stunning gesture.

And Gautam Gambhir was touched by the IPL franchise’s gesture. He was quick to respond to their message and made an interesting comment. The former Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals skipper wrote:

“@RCBTweets I hated losing to you guys, but today you have won me over by this acknowledgement. Thanks a lot”

Well, Gautam Gambhir indeed hated losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore. Who can forget his infamous fight with Virat Kohli during an IPL game. The World Cup-winner spent the best phase of his IPL career with the Knight Riders. After signing up for the franchise in 2011, he completely changed the team’s fortunes. Gambhir led the Knight Riders to two IPL titles (2012, 2014).
