The Punjab batsman has had a good run in the domestic circuit and it was expected that he would make the cut into the squad. However, MSK Prasad stated that Gill will get opportunities in the future.
Gill is the future of Indian cricket.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill had also impressed in the Indian Premier League while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders as he had scored 296 runs in the 13 matches.
“I was waiting for the Indian senior team to be announced on Sunday and I expected to be selected for at least one of the squads,” Gill told Cricketnext. “It was disappointing not to get picked but I am not going to spend time thinking over it. I’ll keep scoring runs and performing to the best of my ability to impress the selectors.”
Meanwhile, India A convincingly defeated West Indies A by 4-1 as they came up with solid performances. India A captain Manish Pandey and Shreyas Iyer were awarded for their renditions. However, Gill was not given his deserved chance.
“It was a fantastic series for me and team as well since we won with a 4-1 margin. Personally, I would have liked to carry on and score at least a couple of hundreds in those fifties. But I will learn from this experience,” Gill added.
Gill also relished the opportunity to bat on the tougher pitches as the Antigua pitch was difficult for the batsmen.
“The West Indies team that we faced here in the series was very good. The pitches — especially in the first few one-dayers — were very tough to bat on. It was tough challenging cricket and it’s good that we managed to come out on top,” Gill said.
On the other hand, Shubman Gill has scored 1545 runs in the 38 matches for India A. The stylish batsman had scored more than seven hundred runs in the domestic circuit for Punjab in his debut season. The talented batsman was awarded the Emerging Player of the award in the IPL 2019.
