When Umesh Yadav came on to bowl the final over of CSK’s innings to defend 26 runs, Royal Challengers Bangalore had the upper hand.

But by the time he was done with his five deliveries, MS Dhoni had pulled the game in CSK’s favour, courtesy three sixes and one four.

In the end, the equation was down to the final ball where CSK needed just two runs to win the game.

A win for CSK or a tie was the likely result that was expected but Umesh Yadav tweaked his fingers a bit, that resulted in Dhoni missing the ball.

Now it was all up to wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel to do rest of the work and he did it to perfection, quashing hopes of CSK to win the thriller.

Almost everyone on the field was left surprised with Dhoni missing the ball and Parthiv Patel was also one of the those who was surprised to see Dhoni miss the ball.

In the post-match presser, Patel revealed the plans of Umesh Yadav and also talked about Dhoni missing the ball.

“We honestly wanted him (Dhoni) to hit through the off-side on the shorter side of the ground. If he had hit it on the leg-side, there were two runs because I don’t think the way he runs, there was any chance of stopping those two,” he said.

“So we wanted (Umesh) to bowl slower and outside the off-stump and surprisingly he missed it. I wasn’t expecting him to miss it but surprisingly he missed it,” Patel further added.

Dhoni was keen to finish the game on his own as he had turned down a couple of singles earlier as he was confident.

He also took CSK to the brink of a win but in the end, visitors fell short by just a whisker, that kept Royal Challengers Bangalore alive in the tournament.

The home side batted first and posted a total of 161/7 on the board.

The total seemed to be on a lower side but Dale Steyn and Umesh Yadav struck four early wickets to push CSK on the backfoot.

Comeback man MS Dhoni stood tall for his side and top-scored with an innings of 84* off 48.

Ambati Rayudu also played a crucial part with 29 off 29.

He stood with Dhoni at a time when CSK needed someone to stand out in the middle and in the end, CSK made a spectacular comeback after losing early wickets.

For RCB, Umesh Yadav’s form in the final over was a big worry for the team and he could be dropped from the playing XI for the next game.

With that win, RCB registered their third win in 10 matches but still sit at the last position with six points.
