The Indian National Cricket Team had always been blessed with the finest opening batsmen. From Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag to the latest Rohit Sharma, the Indian fans always witnessed swashbuckling and classy players knock runs with ease against quality bowling attacks. One such player, who always dragged crowd to the stadiums with his masterclass was Krishnamachari Srikkanth.

Opening with the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, Srikkanth has soon become the prince for the Indian fans for his aggressive batting against top-class bowling attacks. He was a sort of trendsetter, as he played those strokes more often than not, unlike the other batsman, who used to play at a mid-range of 70-80 strike rate during those times.

Speaking to Times of India, Krishnamachari Srikkanth sheds light on quite a few aspects of his game from his playing days. Despite having a remarkable career under his belt, Srikkanth felt that he lacked the discipline of Virender Sehwag, which would have helped him to score a few more runs for team India.

The latest recipient of the BCCI’s Lifetime Achievement Award wished he had the kind of discipline in his game that Sehwag did. Plenty of similarities have been drawn between the two former India openers with both being aggressive batsmen who didn’t like to hold back on their shots. However, Srikkanth feels Sehwag got the control over his innings, unlike him.

”At times I feel if only I had the discipline of Sehwag, I, too, would have got those runs that he got. Sehwag was a brilliant player, but even when he was playing those dazzling shots, he knew how to control his innings and not throw it away,” Krishnamachari Srikkanth told Times of India.
