The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned Canada’s Under-19 spinner, Raqib Shamsudeen after his action was found to be illegal. The youngster is part of the Canadian squad competing at the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa.

Shamsudeen has been suspended from bowling in international matches with immediate effect after the decision was taken by the event panel of the Under-19 World Cup.

The youngster’s bowling action was reported to match officials, during Canada’s match against South Africa on 22nd January.

Besides, the video footage of his bowling was then reviewed by the panel, which has given the decision against Shamsudeen.

The event panel, which consisted of members of the ICC Panel of Human Movement Specialists did a thorough inspection of Shamsudeen’s bowling action. They found the player guilty of having an illegal bowling action, and hence he has been suspended.

The ICC later released a media statement confirming the 18-year-old Canadian spinner’s ban.

“The panel concluded that Shamsudeen employed an illegal bowling action and, as such, in accordance with article 6.7 of the regulations, he is immediately suspended from bowling in international cricket,” read the statement.

The news will come as a big blow to both Shamsudeen and his country who have struggled at the U-19 World Cup so far.

From the five matches Canada’s colts have played, they tasted defeat in three of them, winning just one game and one game had no result.

However, they were victorious against Japan in the Plate Playoff at Ibbies Oval.

Now, the Canadian team can look forward to the 13th place Playoff versus the United Arab Emirates at Potchefstroom.
