New Zealand has maintained their unbeaten record in the ongoing 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup after securing a seven-wicket victory (with 107 balls to spare) against Afghanistan on Saturday (8th June) at The Cooper Associates County Ground (Taunton).

After the New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to field first, Afghanistan was bowled out for just 172 (41.1 overs). Later, New Zealand chased down that target in 32.1 overs after losing three wickets.

i) James Neesham (5/31) and Lockie Ferguson (4/37), both bowlers took at least four wickets in this match. In Cricket World Cup history, it is the first time when two New Zealand bowlers claimed at least four wickets in the same innings.

ii) James Neesham had the bowling figures of 10-1-31-5. It is the fifth best bowling figures by a New Zealand bowler in Cricket World Cup history.

iii) The opening batsman Martin Guptill was dismissed on the first ball of their innings without opening his account. Only John Wright was the other New Zealand opener who scored a golden duck in Cricket World Cup.

Afghanistan

i) Hashmatullah Shahidi played a fighting knock of 59 runs off 99 balls. By playing this innings, Shahidi becomes the second highest individual scorer for Afghanistan in Cricket World Cup history. Samiullah Shinwari is the record holder with 96 runs which he scored against Scotland at Dunedin on 26th February 2015.
