ICC Mulls for Extensive Change to Save Test Cricket after T20 Success

The world cricket body, International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed major concern. It came following the burgeoning rise in the Twenty20 format.

It’s pertinent to mention, the senior journalist for Guardian, Ali Martin termed it as the ‘talent drain’. While citing it is because of the professional domestic T20 leagues.

“It stems from a fear that, unless the governing body brings in tougher rules that guarantee league revenues go back into player development rather than to private owners, the grassroots of the sport could wither,” Ali maintained in his Guardian exclusive.

The latest proposal came after the hype of the T20 league across the cricketing globe.

To curb the rapid rise of the short-paced tournament, ICC is looking for the sweeping plan.

It’s pertinent to mention defending T20 champions Windies have thrown the support behind the current procedure. However, there is more on offer.

The latest suggestions come to the forth to keep the Test cricket intact. Regarding the standardisation, Windies on the other side struggled in the Test fold.

As many cricketing pundits already stated the steep rise in the T20 format has somewhat affected the Test fold.

On the other side, the administration of the Board will witness the chief executive meeting during ICC’s meeting in Kolkata.

Moreover, with gentleman’s game at the crossroads, the all-important meeting between distinct board administrations would be quite interesting. Executives would discuss at length and breadth about the recommendations as per the paper.

Moreover, the recommendations also include the players owing to the age bar of 32.

Apart from this, the players from overseas will be introduced in the domestic leg.

Owing to the compensation, the suggestions include leagues are bound to pay 20 percent while considering the contract to their respective boards. It would be deemed as the mandatory compensation.

“Compensation paid by T20 leagues to a player’s country of origin fluctuates greatly and is not mandatory,” Ali asserted.

In April, the recommendation would back the payment process and the welfare of the players and discuss the impact of the T20 leagues.

However, the administration has considered striking a balance regarding the international and domestic fold.

With the Test and 50-over leagues slated for 2018 by ICC, it has already witnessed the cricket carnival-like Indian Premier League has set the massive example.
