Virat Kohli has consolidated his position at the top of ODI rankings for the batsman as per the latest rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday (September 4). Riding on his outstanding performance in the recently-concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka Kohli, who is also the top-ranked batsman in T20Is, has further increased his lead over Australia’s David Warner from 12 to 26 points and is now on 887 points – equaling the highest ODI rating points by an India batsman which was recorded by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar in 1998.

Kohli, who is also the first batsman to cross the 1000-run mark in ODIs this year, scored a staggering 330 runs in the series with the help of two centuries and a half-century as the Men in Blue whitewashed Sri Lanka by 5-0. Rohit Sharma and Mahendra Singh Dhoni have also been rewarded for their fine show in the series and are back in top 10. Rohit, the second highest run-maker in the series with 302 runs, has moved five places to ninth position while Dhoni, who scored 162 in the series, has moved from 12th to 1oth.

In bowling, Jasprit Bumrah has jumped a staggering 27 places to reach  a career-best fourth position. The bowlers’ list is led by Australia’s Josh Hazlewood. Bumrah, who took his maiden 5-fer in the series, finished the series with 15 wickets and was adjudged the Man of the Series.  His 15-wicket haul is also the best by any bowler in a bilateral ODI series in Sri Lanka.
