Rohit Sharma probably played the greatest ODI innings on November 13th five years ago. The International Cricket Council (ICC) wished the 32-year old on the fifth anniversary of his record-breaking innings of 264 in an ODI against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens. However, the sport’s apex body didn’t neglect the fact that was dropped on 4 on his way to the highest ever individual score in 50-over cricket.

On November 13th 2014, India’s limited-overs vice-captain scored his second double-century and smashed plenty of records for fun in the process. The right-hander registered his first double-hundred (209) in 2013 against Australia at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore and his third (208) against Sri Lanka in Mohali in 2017. He remains the only cricketer till date to have three double hundreds in ODIs under his belt.

However, many may overlook that Thisara Perera dropped Rohit Sharma in the fifth over when he looped a delivery off Shaminda Eranga to the third man fielder. Perera failed to cling on to a regulation chance, and Rohit pummelled the Sri Lankan bowlers from that point. The Mumbai batsman carted 33 fours and nine sixes on his way to 264 as the hosts posted an enormous total of 404 for the loss of five wickets.

Interestingly, it was Rohit’s first innings after making a comeback from a fractured finger, having spent time off for ten weeks. He took some time to settle in the middle, but it didn’t dent his confidence going forward. India ransacked 129 off the final ten overs out of which Rohit socred 110.

In reply, the tourists couldn’t even go past Rohit Sharma’s score, having bundled out for 251. Dhawal Kulkarni was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets in ten overs for 35 runs. The promotion to the opening position even in Test cricket worked wonders for India as he scored over 500 runs in his first Test series while batting in the top order. Recently, the 32-year old led India to a victory in the T20I series over Bangladesh.
