ICC Test Rankings: Sri Lanka Topple Pakistan to Take the Sixth Position

Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in the second Test match in UAE by 68 runs to complete a series whitewash against Pakistan.

Thirteen months back, Pakistan were presented with the Test mace after they topped the ICC’s rankings in the longest format of the game. However, Pakistan has now slipped to the seventh position in the latest Test team rankings, which were updated following the conclusion of their home series against Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka not only won the series 2-0 but handed Pakistan only its second whitewash in a home series. Before this, the hosts have lost all three Tests against Australia back in 2002-03.

Before the start of the series, Pakistan was on 93 points but they suffered a five-point loss, on the other hand, Sri Lanka who started the series with 90 points gained four points.

Sri Lanka now are just three points away from Australia, while Pakistan leads the West Indies by 13 points.

Sri Lanka will now move to India for a three-Test series starting on November 16 in Kolkata, India are currently at the top of ICC Test Rankings and they recently defeated Sri Lanka 9-0 in their own backyard.

The Proteas gained a point after they whitewashed Bangladesh on their home soil, the visitors were no match for the African side. Bangladesh suffered a two-point loss after the defeat.
