Sri Lanka is all set to tour Pakistan for the first time since 2009 to play three ODIs and T20Is each. Ahead of their visit, the International Cricket Council (ICC) will review the security arrangements in Pakistan before they appoint neutral umpires and match referees.

Notably, Pakistan had been an isolated destination for international cricket since the 2009 terrorist attack in which gunmen targeted a Sri Lanka team bus in Lahore, leaving several cricketers injured. Sri Lanka had announced second-string squad for the tour after senior cricketers backed out.

Hours after naming their squads for the tour of Pakistan, the Prime Minister’s Office in Sri Lanka has received a terror threat alert. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said that they will reassess the security before embarking on the tour.

And now, ICC is also set to review the security measures before the tour begins. Pertinently, ICC had not appointed neutral match officials when Zimbabwe visited Pakistan in 2015. It will be interesting to see if ICC would indirectly endorse the security arrangements in Pakistan by appointing neutral officials or let the PCB and SLC pick officials from within their own setups.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan will play three ODIs followed by three T20Is between September 27 and October 9. Karachi and Lahore will host all the matches as PCB is desperate to bring back international to the country.

While Sri Lanka have already named two teams for the ODIs and T20Is, Pakistan will conduct a camp before announcing their squad for the series.
