Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly on Saturday, took to Twitter — to send his best wishes to the Indian Women’s team that will play in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final against Australia on Sunday.

This is the first time in history — that an India team in women’s cricket has made it to the final of the World Cup. Ahead of the momentous occasion for the Indian ladies, a former legend of the sport, Ganguly, wished the team good luck — and also said that they have made the country proud.

Ganguly, who led the Men’s team to a World Cup final himself, fell just short of the title — as they lost to Australia in 2003. He wished the Indian Women’s team good luck in a short post on Twitter on the eve of the match.

“Good wishes to the Indian women’s cricket team for the finals tomorrow .. They have made the country proud..,” tweeted the 47-year-old former Indian skipper.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s side qualified for the final after they were given a bye as their semifinal game against England was washed out.

India finished top of their group, and hence, as per International Cricket Council’s (ICC) rules, the team which has a better track record in the group stage gets the benefit.

Defending champions Australia meanwhile have had a rocky campaign so far, as they were beaten by India in the first match, and hence, they’ve played four matches, that were equivalent to knockout games.

Meg Lanning’s team defeated South Africa in the second semifinal by five runs, to book a place in the grand finale.

The Women’s T20 World Cup final between India and Australia will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, and unlike the semis, the final will have a reserve day, if there is rain.

Just in case, the match can’t be played on Monday as well, due to some reason, the two teams will be declared as the joint winners.
