The first semifinal of the ICC World Cup 2019 will see India go up against the 2015 runners-up New Zealand on July 9 (Tuesday) at the Old Trafford in Manchester. While an exciting clash is on the cards, rains may play a spoilsport on Tuesday’s encounter. Although ICC has a reserve day, the weather on that day also looks gloomy.
India finished the league stage at the top of the points table to set up a clash with New Zealand who progressed to the top-four with a better net run-rate over Pakistan. Rohit Sharma has been in brilliant form scoring five centuries in the tournament to be the highest run-scorer of the competition currently. KL Rahul has also found his touch back at the right time with scores of 77 and 111 in the last two games. The bowlers have rallied behind the batters and will make the job of the management tough with difficult choices to make.
On the other hand, New Zealand will look to come out of the blocks stronger after three consecutive defeats. The Kiwis made an excellent start to the tournament winning five straight matches, but things turned pale thereafter. The top-order, including Martin Guptill, has failed to score runs which have put extra pressure on skipper Kane Williamson and the middle order. The bowlers have done a good job led by Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson who will look to come out stronger against India.
Date and Venue: India vs New Zealand, July 9 (Tuesday) at 3:00 PM IST, at the Old Trafford in Manchester
The weather at Old Trafford in Manchester will have significant cloud cover throughout the day. The turn of events looks gloomier after the toss with 51 per cent chances of rain. The expected maximum temperature for the day will be around 19-20 degrees in Manchester with 90 per cent cloud cover almost throughout the day. If the match between India and New Zealand takes place, teams will look to bowl first to exploit the overcast conditions.

ICC has kept reserve days for the semifinals and final, unlike the league matches. If rain interrupts the game on Tuesday due to inclement weather, the game will resume on Wednesday. The forecast for the reserve day is not much bright either as there are chances of 60 percent in the morning.
