Meanwhile, Vijay Shankar was hit on the forearm while attempting a pull against left-arm fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed. Khaleel is among the four pacers travelling with the Indian squad as net bowlers. Vijay was part of the second group of batsmen alongside MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya who were gearing up for the warm-up match.

While all the Indian fans were mulling over Vijay Shankar’s injury, BCCI have finally come out with an update. The report said that the Tamil Nadu all-rounder went for scans immediately which revealed that there was no fracture on his elbow. This will be massive news for the Indian National Cricket Team as Shankar is likely to bat at the crucial position of four. There has been a lot of debate with his selection and the young all-rounder is looking forward to proving the critics wrong.

“Vijay Shankar was hit on his right forearm during practice on Friday. He underwent scans and no fracture has been detected. BCCI Medical Team is aiding him in his recovery,” BCCI said in a tweet.

The Indian National Cricket Team management, meanwhile, didn’t risk with Vijay Shankar as they kept him out of the practice game against New Zealand. Virat Kohli has won the toss and elected to bat first on an overcast Kennington Oval.

The Men in Blues didn’t get a good start as they lost both their openers early. Trent Boult looked in outstanding form as he removed both the openers to put India on backfoot. Striving at 20 for two, India will hope for a massive partnership from skipper Kohli and KL Rahul.
