May 30 will see the cricket’s biggest extravaganza – ICC World Cup 2019 kick off when host England take on South Africa at Oval Cricket Ground. Many have tipped this competition to be a high-scoring one with the wickets England have produced in recent times. Considering the nature of the wickets, veteran Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga feels the bowlers will be the game changers in the marquee tournament.

Bowlers will be the game changers: Malinga

Meanwhile, Malinga will have to lead the bowling unit of Sri Lanka when they begin their campaign against New Zealand. The Lankans are not in the best of form as they are going through a transition period; however, they will look to put their best feet forward. Lasith Malinga had a good time in the recent warm-up game against Australia despite his team going down by five wickets.

Speaking to ICC media, the 35-year-old said that bowlers will be the game changers as they can get the wickets and win matches for their team. A few days back, former India skipper Rahul Dravid also echoed the same lines that bowlers in the middle overs will be pivotal. Lasith Malinga also said that the team who have skilful bowlers in their ranks will have an advantage with them.

“Cricket is going towards the batsmen but bowlers can change the game, they get the wickets and that wins a match,” Malinga said. “Whoever has the skilful bowlers, in any condition on any pitch, will have the advantage in the team,” he added.
