With the Indian Premier League (IPL) done and dusted, the focus will now shift to the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales. Meanwhile, going by the ICC tournaments, the management will rely heavily on Shikhar Dhawan to do the job for them. The southpaw boasts good record in England returning as the highest run-scorer during the 2013 and 2017 Champions Trophy. Moreover, he also finished as India’s top run-getter during the 2015 ICC World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand. Dhawan has once again looked in good touch ahead of another marquee event and will look to keep up the excellent form.

Shikhar Dhawan finished as the leading run-scorers for Delhi Capitals in the recently concluded IPL. The southpaw scored 521 runs from 16 games including five fifties. However, Dhawan will see a change in his opening partner when he resumes his national duty. Young batsman Prithvi Shaw used to start the batting with Dhawan while the World Cup will see Rohit Sharma and Dhawan taking guards for India to start the innings. Dhawan said the change in partners will have no role and they know each other inside out. The stylish cricketer also mentioned that it is not important to talk to his partner as the process will remain the same, and they will have to fire in England.

“Baatein karke kya hoga? Woh meri biwi thodi na hain! (Whata’s the point in discussing things? Rohit isn’t my wife) If you play with someone for years, you’ll know him inside out. With Rohit, there’s nothing special that we do. It’s just the mindset. Even if I bat with Prithvi, the game remains the same. If one person gets going, the other man plays a supporting role,” he told IANS.

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma forge a destructive opening pair for India. Virat Kohli will hope that they get going in the World Cup as it will help the batsmen to follow to play their natural game. India begin their World Cup campaign on June 5 against South Africa.
