ICC World Cup 2019: Faf du Plessis Credits India Following Their Third Consecutive Loss

Indian National Cricket Team began their ICC World Cup 2019 campaign in style beating South Africa by six wickets at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Meanwhile, this is South Africa’s third consecutive defeats in a row and will have to change the course of the game soon. Faf du Plessis credited India for putting up a great effort on a tough pitch and vouched to come back stronger.

Du Plessis credits the whole Indian team

Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal and Jasprit Bumrah starred with the ball to restrict South Africa to 228 runs. However, the Proteas were reeling at 135 for six before two crucial hands from Andile Phehlukwayo, and Chris Morris helped them post 200+ runs on the board. Faf du Plessis tried to bail his side, but beauty from Yuzvendra Chahal undid his resistance. Morris topped the scoring chart with 42 runs while Chahal picked four while Bumrah picked two in their debut World Cup match to set the tone for India.

Rohit Sharma led India’s run chase with a magnificent century to cruise home safely. Although they lost Shikhar Dhawan early, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and MS Dhoni provided support to Rohit with small contributions to make the chase look easy. Although Dhoni got out at the fag end, Hardik Pandya little cameo ensured India go home with 15 balls to spare. Rohit remained unbeaten on 122 runs which will be a massive boost in these long competitions.

Faf du Plessis credited the Indian team saying that they delivered an all-round effort. He also said that they have all their bases covered and especially mentioned about their bowling attack. The players backed each other and set early standards in the World Cup.

“I thought India were magnificent on a tough pitch. They bowled really well. Their bowling attack is strong. All bases covered. Fast bowlers initially and spinners who get wickets,” du Plessis said.

Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis praised Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris for putting their heart out. However, Rabada was unlucky as many of the chances went begging as the ball fell on the no-man areas. Du Plessis seemed confident to come back strong in the matches to follow.

“Rabada was an absolute champion – he was extremely unlucky, and I have never seen so many balls falling in no-mans land, but he and Morris were excellent today, bowling with pace and good control and even got 40-odd runs today. They were the two stand-out performers today,” he concluded.
