The 31-year-old fast bowler from Afghanistan, Hamid Hasan has given hints that he can announce his retirement from ODIs after the ICC World Cup 2019. Afghanistan have named a strong squad under the leadership of Gulbadin Naib for the marquee event starting from May 30.

Meanwhile, Hasan has made a stunning comeback to the World Cup team. He last played in 2016 and was out of action due to multiple injuries. But the selectors have rung a surprise picking the experienced Hamid Hasan for the cricket’s biggest extravaganza. Hasan played a crucial in the 2015 World Cup where Afghanistan made their debut at the biggest event. He returned with eight wickets from six games and played a vital hand with the bat in beating Scotland.

Hamid will bring a lot of experience to the squad, but continuous injuries have compelled that pacer to consider his retirement. Hamid Hasan admitted that it is likely to be his last World Cup and gave hints that he might retire after the England tour. However, he will continue playing T20 cricket for Afghanistan and various franchise leagues.

“Probably this is going to be my last World Cup for my country. I may stop playing ODI cricket after this tournament,” he said in an interview to the Afghanistan Cricket Board. “However, I would continue playing T20 cricket, either for Afghanistan or in the Shpageeza League (domestic T20 league) or the leagues abroad,” he added.

It is time to consider my health: Hasan

Meanwhile, the recurring injuries have started to take a toll on the body of Hamid Hasan. And rightly so, the fast bowler has decided to give more time to his health. Despite agreeing to the fact that this is a tough call to make, Hasan said it is in the best interest.

“As a player who has dedicated all his life to cricket, the decision to quit is always a tough one. However, after a lot of thought, I felt after the injuries and the recovery process I went through, it is time to consider my health seriously,” he added.

Hamid Hasan has put in all the hard works in the last six months in different camps and is finally regaining his fitness. He is looking forward to giving his all in the upcoming World Cup on June 1 against Australia – Hasan’s birthday.
