Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has backed all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to be in the playing XI for India’s last group match against Sri Lanka on July 6 (Saturday) at Headingley in Leeds. So far, Jadeja has only come out on the ground as a replacement fielder and grabbed two outstanding catches.

Meanwhile, the Men in Blues booked their semifinal berth with a 28-run win over Bangladesh at Edgbaston. However, there will be no room for being overconfident as India will look to keep the winning run going before the start of the knockout stages. Virat Kohli & Co have the license to experiment with their playing XI which allows Ravindra Jadeja to come in the first team.

The Saurashtra all-rounder has been one of the crucial components of India’s team. But Jadeja lost his place in the limited-overs side since the 2017 Champions Trophy. Ravindra Jadeja made a comeback to the ODI team in 2018 and ever since has complemented the two wrist-spinners in the squad. On the eve of India’s last game, Harbhajan Singh has backed Jadeja’s inclusion in the playing XI. The veteran cricketer pointed out that Jadeja can not only give captain Virat Kohli a few overs in the middle but can also score few runs in the death.

“Would like to see Ravindra Jadeja get a game against Sri Lanka or from there onwards. He gives you options – he can bowl 6, 7 or 8 overs. Imagine if anyone has a bad day with the ball, Jadeja will not just give you 6 or 7 overs but he is a very, very handy batsman in the later part of the game,” Harbhajan said to India Today.

India will be keen to bag those crucial two points against Sri Lanka to give themselves a chance of topping the points table ahead of defending champions Australia. The Aussies are currently at the top of the chart with 14 points from eight matches while India has yielded 13 points with both sides having one game to play each.
