The ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales is only a few days away, and all the fans look super excited for it. Ahead of their first warm-up against New Zealand, Indian National Cricket Team opener Rohit Sharma has revealed that he will stick to his plans and play his natural game in the upcoming marquee event.

I am going to stick to my plans: Rohit

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is currently on cloud nine after winning the IPL title with Mumbai Indians beating Chennai Super Kings by one run. Besides, he has also been in good form with the bat forging an outstanding opening partnership with Quinton de Kock. The limited-overs vice-captain will have to carry the form and put good opening stands for India if they want to go deep in the World Cup.

However, there have been a lot of talks about Rohit Sharma’s batting techniques. People have questioned his methods and style of batting, but Rohit admits that it is something he has learnt to live with. Rohit also added that he wouldn’t have scored so many runs if they didn’t risk with his technique.

“You step out of the house and the first guy you say hello to, hellos back: ‘Cover drive thoda aisa khel na. Straight drive sudhaar apna (Play the cover drive like this. Improve your straight drive).’ Kya karoon? (What do I do?). Listen and move on.

“What those people don’t understand is they know and recognise me as a cricketer because of those very shots. I wouldn’t have been scoring the kind of runs I did if I didn’t take those risks,” he added.

Rohit Sharma has scored the most number of runs in the last few years after Virat Kohli. Rohit Sharma has adopted himself to a different of taking time to settle in the batting powerplays before cutting loose. The Mumbai cricketer is the only player in the history to score three double centuries, and in all those matches, he got off to a slow start before unleashing a carnage.

“What works for me is what works for me. I’m going to stick to my plans. In those double hundreds that I have scored, you’ve got to see how many balls I had consumed by the time I reached my first 10 runs, the first 50 runs, the first 75-80 runs. It’ll rarely be five balls/10 runs or 25 balls/50 runs … But I’ve still got there.

I’ve worked with certain trends and those trends have worked for me in return. There will be days when I will get off to a flyer,” he concluded.

Rohit Sharma will be a crucial customer for India when they begin their World Cup campaign on June 5 against South Africa at Southampton.
