The young spinner, Mujeeb ur Rahman will be pivotal for Afghanistan Cricket team in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 starting from May 30. Mujeeb was recently in India plying his trade in the Indian Premier League under the leadership of Ravichandran Ashwin in the Kings XI Punjab squad. He has learnt a trick or two from the senior statesman and looks to implement those in the marquee event.

Meanwhile, Mujeeb has most warmed the benches during his stint in India owing to injury and poor performances. A shoulder injury meant that Mujeeb ur Rahman wasn’t at his best during the cash-rich league. He managed to pick only three wickets in five games shelling out 10.05 runs per over.

Will look to Ashwin’s tips in the World Cup

However, the 18-year-old has used the time well to pick the brains of Ravichandran Ashwin at the Punjab nets. Mujeeb ur Rahman admitted that Ashwin has helped him improve his game during the IPL and he hopes to implement those in the UK. He also revealed that he has regained his fitness and raring to go in the World Cup.

“I have learnt a lot having spent quality time with Ravichandran Ashwin in the KXIP set-up. He has given me a lot of useful tips and I am sure that I will execute those plans in the World Cup. During this edition of IPL, my shoulder injury was an issue. But now I am fully fit for the World Cup,” Mujeeb said.

Mujeeb ur Rahman went for 66 runs in four overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad when David Warner took him to cleaners. However, he didn’t seem bothered with it and said that it is a part and parcel of the game. He also admitted that there will be bad days and it is important to overcome those.

In conclusion, Mujeeb ur Rahman sounded confident that along with senior spinners Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi they have a better chance this time when they play their first game against Australia on June 1.
