ICC World Cup 2019: Legend Brian Lara Praise KL Rahul, Calls Him the Most Technically-Gifted Batsman

The injury of Shikhar Dhawan will see KL Rahul take up the opening role alongside Rohit Sharma in the clash of the Titans – India and Pakistan. As Rahul looks forward to open the innings in the high-intensity encounter, he has got the best motivation from the legendary West Indies batsman Brian Lara. Meanwhile, Lara is currently in England for his commitments as a commentator.

Lara heaps praise on Rahul

India will take on Pakistan later today at the historic Old Trafford Stadium in Machester. The game has garnered a lot of craze and will be a full house on Sunday. All was right for India except Shikhar Dhawan’s injury who will take 10-12 days to recover. The injury will see KL Rahul slot in the top-order alongside Rohit Sharma. So far, the Karnataka cricketer has batted in the middle-order scoring 26 and an unbeaten 11 in the two games. Although he will have big shoes to fill, Rahul has time and again proved that he is capable of doing the job for his side.

Brian Lara has heaped praise on KL Rahul calling him the most technically-gifted batsman among the current crop of Indian players. The former West Indies skipper also said that it is disheartening to see Shikhar Dhawan missing games with an injury.

“It’s sad to see that Shikhar Dhawan is out with an injury. With him in the team, you had a strong No.4 in K.L Rahul. In my opinion, Rahul is the most technically-gifted batsman in the Indian team. In the event of a top-order collapse, Rahul can repair the damage. If the top-order clicks, you can move Hardik Pandya up to No.4 to get quick runs,” Lara said.

Lara picks India as the favourites to win

Speaking about the clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, Brian Lara said that a complete Indian side are the favourites to win considering that rain stays away during the game time. Lara especially mentioned about India’s bowling attack calling Jasprit Bumrah the best in the business with good support from the other bowlers.

“If rain stays away, my money is on India maintaining their winning World Cup record against Pakistan. India is strong in all departments. Jasprit Bumrah is the best limited-overs fast bowler in the world, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar is very good too. And then they have two brilliant spinners in Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav,” he concluded.
