It will be a cracker of the game when host England will go up against a vibrant West Indies team in their fourth game of the ICC World Cup 2019 on June 14 (Friday) at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
West Indies bowlers have put up a good show so far in the tournament. However, the batters have failed back the effort put on by the bowlers. They have lacked application in their batting, which cost them the match against Australia. In the last game against South Africa, Sheldon Cottrell gave a good start before rain played spoilsport. The batters need to raise their game and support the bowlers against a world-class England team.
On the other hand, after a shocking defeat to Pakistan, England dominated every department against Bangladesh, as they first put up 386 runs on board and then bundled them out for 280 in the 49th over. The openers, determined not to fall into the trap of spin bowling, gave a perfect start, as Jason Roy mastered his way to 153. While Ben Stokes has been giving some priceless overs with the ball, Moeen Ali is likely to return in the playing eleven, considering the number of left-handers in the West Indies line-up. Mark Wood will sit out considering that he if not fully fit.
England skipper Eoin Morgan has won the toss and elected to bowl first against West Indies at Southampton.
Here is what the captain’s said
We are gonna have a bowl first. The wicket has been under covers for last 24 hours. There has been a lot of rain around and we feel there would be some moisture on it. Completely different challenge that we had against Bangladesh. The World Cup is about adapting to conditions. Tough challenge for us. We have got the same team.
Would have wanted to bowl first as well thanks to a fresh wicket. We guys have planned well for this game and we are up for it. It is a matter of adapting to situations. We have got three changes. Evin Lewis comes in, Russell comes back and Shannon Gabriel is playing his first game.
