Must win clash for Pakistan

South Africa’s chances of making it to the semifinals seem all but over after their loss against New Zealand. The batsmen have failed to raise their game despite their bowlers, providing them with an early edge in all the previous games. The batters need to apply themselves and post enough runs on the scoreboard. The Faf du Plessis-led side will look to produce performances similar to that of their series win against Pakistan earlier this year when they take the field on Sunday.

On the other hand, Pakistan’s performance have gone down after starting the tournament on a high.  Mohammad Amir has created an impact in his every outing but has got little or no support from the other end. The likes of Wahab Riaz and Shadab Khan needs to stand up and deliver the goods in these crunch situations. The batting too, barring the game against England, has failed on a consistent basis.

Date and Venue: Pakistan vs South Africa, June 23 (Sunday) at 3:00 PM IST, at Lord’s in London

Toss Report

Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed has won the toss and elected to bat first against South Africa at Lord’s.

Here is what the captains said,

Sarfaraz Ahmed

We are going to bat first today. It looks a good wicket, we’ll put runs on the board and defend it. We are focussing on this match, hopefully, we do well. It’s an important game for us. Haris Sohail and Shaheen Afridi are back in the team.

Faf du Plessis

There’s pressure every game you play, especially in the World Cup. Two teams will try to play their best cricket today, hopefully it’ll be exciting. We had an opportunity to launch in the last 10 overs in the last game, but we were 15 runs short. It’s the same team, gives us a good balance. I was going to bowl first anyways, it’s a good toss to lose.
