India will look to beat Sri Lanka when they go up against each other on July 6 (Saturday) at Headingley in Leeds to keep the momentum going before the semifinals. Meanwhile, the Men in Blues will aim to beat the Lankans and then look forward to South Africa beating Australia to finish the group stages on the top of the points table.

Virat Kohli & Co will look to solve their middle-order woes and want MS Dhoni to hit the strides before the start of the knockout stage. Dhoni has struggled to score runs at a brisk pace in the last few games and received a lot of flak. Amidst all the retirement rumours, the former India skipper will want to put some runs behind his back to silence the critics. Otherwise, the team have performed like a well-oiled machine and will only hope to keep up the excellent work in the last games of the tournament.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, had played good cricket in patches and has struggled to come out strong consistently. Avishka Fernando has been the find for Sri Lanka in this World Cup who would serve the Lankan cricket for long. Veteran fast Lasith Malinga, in all likelihood, is playing his last World Cup game and will look to finish the tournament on a positive note. India will have to overcome the Malinga threat to keep the winning run going.

Date and Venue: India vs Sri Lanka, July 6 (Saturday) from 3:00 PM IST, at Headingley in Leeds

Toss Report

Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne has won the toss and elected to bat first against India at Headingley in Leeds.

Here is what the captains said,

Virat Kohli

We would have batted first as well, used pitch, will get slower as the match progresses. The team is doing well, we are striking a good balance at the right time. Two changes for us, one forced. Chahal has been rested and so is Shami. Kuldeep and Jadeja are in.

Dimuth Karunaratne

We will bat first. It was an obvious plan, it’s a used wicket and will get slower and slower. We didn’t capitalize in the first few games, but we then started to correct those mistakes and started to do well. One change, Thisara replaces Vandersay.
