India suffered a shocking exit from the semifinals of the ICC World Cup 2019 losing to New Zealand by 18 runs on July 10 (Thursday) at the Old Trafford in Manchester. Mitchell Santner starred with the ball in the middle overs dominating over Indian batsmen. The slow left-arm spinner in a fun chat revealed that he didn’t want to get MS Dhoni out because the Chennai Super Kings skipper will drop him from the squad.

Santner reveals why he didn’t get Dhoni out

Batting first, half-centuries from Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson had propelled New Zealand to 239 runs in rain-marred first innings. The target proved too much for Virat Kohli & Co as hey fell 18 runs short at Manchester. While defending, New Zealand seamers Matt Henry and Trent Boult starred with the ball to defend a moderate target set by them over two days. They removed India’s top-order batters in no time to have them at five for three and then at 24 for four. Although India put their best feet forward with two partnership, the dismissal of Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni after a 100-run stand was the final nail in the coffin.

Mitchell Santner in an exclusive chat revealed that he didn’t dismiss MS Dhoni in fear of getting dropped from the Chennai squad for the next IPL as he bursts into laughter. Santner had a good time in the last IPL and will hope to continue his stint with the MS Dhoni-led franchise.

“I thought I wouldn’t get Dhoni out the other day because he might drop me from Chennai. So I thought that might be the right thing to do,” Santner said ahead of the final.

Furthermore, Mitchell Santner said that the wicket favoured the spinners. The left-arm spinner also added that he watched Ravindra Jadeja bowl before him and tried to copy him which worked wonders for him.

“Yeah, I guess it was a slightly favourable pitch the other day, it was slightly slower, I guess I watch a lot how Jadeja bowled on there and I tried to do something similar, trying to bowl fast into the wicket, pull the length back, and he was tough to play, and I think we had the same figures at the end of it,” Santner concluded.
