Mohammed Shami, who came into the playing XI against Afghanistan in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar impressed is his very first ICC World Cup 2019 game. India banked on hattrick from Shami in the last over to escape a shocker against the Afghans at Southampton. And now with Kumar regaining his fitness, India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun admitted that Shami’s form gives them a problem of plenty.

It is a good problem to have: Arun

Bhuvneshwar Kumar pulled his hamstring in the game against Pakistan and left the field midway. Shami came into the playing XI in the next match against Afghanistan and claimed figures of four for 40 to hand India their fourth victory of the World Cup. Mohammed Shami has been in excellent form leading to the World Cup and forged a great partnership with Jasprit Bumrah.

However, with Kumar regaining his fitness and hitting the training sessions, Mohammed Shami’s place in the playing XI will once again be in doubts. Bharat Arun revealed that the Bengal pacer’s form will give them a problem of plenty. Arun also told that Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s injury is not a concern, but they don’t want to risk with him.

“Bhuvneshwar’s injury is not of any great concern. It is just a niggle, which we didn’t want to take a chance on,” Arun said. “And it was also an opportunity for us to plug Shami into the games. But the fact he’s done exceptionally well all goes well for us. It’s an embarrassment of riches,” he added.

Furthermore, Bharat Arun said that they will take a call depending on the situations and it is a good problem to have. India face West Indies later today at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

“And we would take a call as per the conditions, but Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar) has done exceptionally well, so I think it’s a pretty good headache to have,” he concluded.
