Former India, skipper MS Dhoni, has been struggling to score runs at a good pace which has attracted a lot of criticism in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019. Amidst these, rumours are going round the Dhoni is likely to hang his boots from international cricket after the marquee tournament. But veteran Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga feels the wicket-keeper batsman should play for one or two more years which will benefit team India.

Dhoni should play for another two years: Malinga

MS Dhoni’s finishing abilities have come to a standstill as he struggled to take on the bowlers in the middle and death overs. He has eaten up a lot of deliveries which has put pressure on the non-strikers who has thrown his wickets in pursuit of scoring quick runs. Also, his wicket-keeping has not been upto the mark which he has set in the earlier days.

As India gear up for their last league game against Sri Lanka, veteran pacer Lasith Malinga has opined that MS Dhoni should play for another one or two years. The Sri Lankan fast bowler feels that Dhoni is the best finisher in the last ten years, and anyone can hardly beat him in future. Maling also said that Dhoni’s mere presence in the team is also helpful for the youngsters and India is a successful team because of his presence in the side.

“I think MS (Dhoni) should play for another one or two years. He is the best finisher in the last 10 years. I don’t think anyone can beat him in future. He has to give his experience and situation handling to all the young players. They (India) have good experience in past captain MS Dhoni. I think that’s why they are a successful team. I think they are good enough to beat any team in this competition,” Malinga told ANI.

Furthermore, when asked what does he think about Virat Kohli’s captaincy, Lasith Malinga said the India skipper does not have to do much as India have got good players. The Mein in Blues have already secured the semifinal berth and will play either of England or New Zealand in a bid to occupy a berth in the final.

“I think Virat has a good luxury. They (India) have good players, they showed their character in the IPL tournament. They know exactly their ownership in the team, every single player then Virat doesn’t have to do much,” Malinga concluded.
