ICC World Cup 2019: MS Dhoni Wil Be India's Trump Card - Zaheer Abbas

The former Pakistan Skipper Zaheer Abbas believes that the former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is going to be the trump card for the Indian team in England. If the reports are to believe MS Dhoni will be playing his final ICC World Cup and would be eager to end it on a winning note.

The Indian National Cricket Team has always been blessed to have stalwart players on their side. From Kapil Dev to Sachin Tendulkar and then MS Dhoni to Virat Kohli, they always got the top-class cricketer, who made the difference for the country. This would be the final time that MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli will be in action together in an ICC event, at least in 50 overs.

The captaincy skills of Virat Kohli were headlined when Australians won the series against India in the home conditions. The absence of MS Dhoni in the squad followed by three losses on a trot made Virat Kohli a scapegoat for the harsh headlines. Meanwhile, Zaheer Abbas believes that the experience of MS Dhoni makes the difference.

Zaheer Abbas hailed MS Dhoni saying that he is the genius and understands the game like no other in the 50-over format. He feels that Dhoni is going to be a vital cog for Captain and the coach going forward.

“India has a genius called Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the team. He is the brain of cricket in the team. He understands the game so well and has experience of leading India in two WC wins. And also, his experience will be vital for captain and coach and he can be their trump card. Also, it is the first WC under Virat Kohli’s captaincy and he would be eager to prove his mettle as a captain,” Abbas told PTI Bhasha.

Batting conditions will help Indians –

Abbas further quoted that the flat wickets in England might also see 450 runs on the board being chased down. He believes that the Indian team would be favourites on such tracks, as they got the quality batting lineup in their ranks.

”We have seen that in the recently-concluded Pakistan-England series, that over 300 runs were scored and chased. Now in the World Cup, 450 runs could be a possibility as there is no grass on the wickets. In such a scenario, India will benefit as they have one of the strongest batting line ups. English wickets are now batsmen’s paradise,” he said.

Well, as Zaheer Abbas said, the presence of MSD has always been a great thing for the Indian National Cricket Team. He is going to be the major booster for the team in the upcoming edition of ICC World Cup 2019, especially, for Virat Kohli, who will lead the side with a heavy burden on his shoulders.
