ICC World Cup 2019: New Zealand Fined For Slow Over-Rate Against Windies

New Zealand has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in the win against West Indies at Old Trafford, Manchester, the ICC confirmed on Sunday. Match Referee David Boon declared that the Kiwis bowled one over short of their target after time allowances were taken to consideration.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson was pleaded guilty and the right-hander was fined 20% of his match fees. Furthermore, the rest of the ten New Zealand players were fined 10% of their match fees in accordance with article 2.22 of the ICC’s Code of Conduct, the governing body said in a statement.

Williamson will need to be cautious.

Hence, Williamson will need to be cautious as another such mistake can hand him a suspension in the tournament.

“If New Zealand commits another minor over-rate breach during the tournament with Williamson in the side, it will be deemed a second offence by him and he will face a suspension,” the ICC statement added.

Meanwhile, New Zealand is currently at the top of the points table with five wins in the six matches they have played. One match against India ended in no result and New Zealand has 11 points under their belt.

The Blackcaps are in fine form and they look set to make it to the last four of the tournament. New Zealand will play their next match against Pakistan at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 26th June.

On the other hand, New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson is in fine form in the tournament. The stylish batsman has scored 373 runs in the four innings he has played.

Furthermore, he has scored his runs at a staggering average of 186.50 and strike rate of 86.50. The flamboyant batsman has scored two centuries in the tournament. Thus, Williamson will look to continue his dream form going.
