Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim revealed that his captain Sarfaraz Ahmed had inspired the team to make a solid comeback after the defeat against arch-rivals India. The Men in Green were severely criticized after they were mopped away by India by 89 runs. However, Pakistan was able to turn the tables after their big loss and they went on win their last four matches.

But due to a bad Net Run Rate, Pakistan could not qualify for the semifinal stages despite having same points as New Zealand. Pakistan made a roaring comeback after the gargantuan defeat in the first match against West Indies proved costly for the team.

Imad Wasim revealed that Sarfaraz Ahmed called the meeting after the defeat and all the players gave their inputs.

“All other players also gave their input in the meeting,” he was quoted as saying by geo.tv.

“In my opinion, if you don’t win the World Cup, you have to at least reach the final or semis, so this was not satisfactory,” he said.

On the other hand, there were reports that Pakistan team was divided into groups. It was reported that Wahab Riaz, Imad Wasim and Imam-ul-Haq were against Sarfaraz Ahmed. However, Imad Wasim quashed such rumours.

There were no groupings.

“If there were groupings in the team, I wouldn’t play,” Imad was quoted as saying by PakPassion.

“We all play for Pakistan, there was a lot of talk after the match [against] India but the media should be more careful. I [have] known Sarfraz [for] 15 years, he isn’t like that and none of the other players are either, we all play for Pakistan,” Imad Said.

“There were no differences, sometimes during the match there is a little back and forth but if the captain says something, you should take it as a player as he is playing for Pakistan,” he added.

Pakistan was able to win five matches out of their nine matches. The Men in Green lost three matches whereas one match ended in no result.
